Tour Details

The duration of the tour can vary, but typically it can range from 10 to 15 days, depending on the itinerary and trekking routes chosen. The most popular trekking route in the Rolwaling Valley is the Rolwaling Tashi Lapcha Pass trek. This challenging trek takes you through remote villages, stunning alpine landscapes, and offers breathtaking views of mountains like Gauri Shankar (7,134 meters) and Melungtse (7,181 meters).

The trek usually starts from a village called Charikot, which is approximately 132 kilometers east of Kathmandu. You can reach Charikot by bus or private vehicle from Kathmandu. To enter the Rolwaling Valley, you will need to obtain the necessary permits. This typically includes the Sagarmatha National Park entry permit and a TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card. It is advisable to check the latest permit requirements and regulations before your trip. Along the trekking route, there are basic teahouses and lodges available for accommodation. These teahouses provide simple meals and a place to rest. It is recommended to carry your own sleeping bag for added comfort.

Hiring a local guide and porter is highly recommended for trekking in the Rolwaling Valley. They can assist with navigation, provide valuable insights about the region, and help carry your backpack, allowing you to fully enjoy the trek. The Rolwaling Valley trek is considered a strenuous trek, involving steep ascents, descents, and high altitudes. It is essential to have a good level of physical fitness and acclimatize properly to the altitude. The best time to visit the Rolwaling Valley is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons when the weather is relatively stable, and the views are spectacular. The winter months (December to February) can be extremely cold, with heavy snowfall, making the trek challenging. The monsoon season (June to August) brings heavy rainfall, making the trails slippery and less enjoyable.

Trekking in the Himalayas always comes with certain risks. It is important to be well-prepared, follow safety guidelines, and listen to the advice of your guide. Acclimatization, proper gear, and travel insurance are essential for a safe trekking experience.
