Tour Details

The tour usually takes around 12-14 days, including both trekking and acclimatization days. The Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar trek is considered a moderately challenging trek. It involves daily trekking for several hours, ascending and descending steep terrains, and reaching altitudes above 5,000 meters (16,400 feet).

During the trek, you’ll stay in tea houses, which are basic mountain lodges offering rooms with twin beds or dormitory-style accommodation. The facilities may be simple, with shared bathrooms and limited amenities, but they provide a cozy and warm place to rest and rejuvenate. The tea houses along the trail serve a variety of meals, including traditional Nepali dishes, as well as international cuisine like pasta, pizza, and soups. You can enjoy meals like dal bhat (lentil soup with rice and vegetables), mono (dumplings), and Sherpa stew. It’s advisable to stick to hot, freshly cooked food and avoid raw vegetables to minimize the risk of food borne illnesses.

Proper acclimatization is crucial to minimize the risk of altitude sickness. The trek includes scheduled acclimatization days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche, where you’ll spend an extra day to allow your body to adjust to the high altitude. During these rest days, you can explore the local area or take short hikes for better acclimatization.

It is recommended to hire a professional guide and porters for the trek. The guide will provide valuable information about the region, ensure your safety, and assist with navigation. Porters will carry your heavy backpacks, allowing you to trek with a lighter day packYou will need to obtain two permits for the trek – the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entry Permit. These permits can be obtained in Kathmandu or at the entrance of the national park in Monjo. The best time to undertake the Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar trek is during the pre-monsoon (spring) season (March to May) and post-monsoon (autumn) season (September to November). The weather during these seasons is relatively stable, with clear skies, mild temperatures, and a lower chance of rainfall or snowfall.
