Annapurna Base Camp Trek also referred to as Annapurna Sanctuary trek is one amongst the foremost explored hikes in Nepal. This trek takes you to the base camp of Annapurna I (,091 m), the world’s tenth highest mountain. The scenic and challenging part of this trek lures many hikers from different parts of the world. Throughout the trek, one can immerse in the spellbinding views ofMt. Annapurna I(,091m.), Mt. Annapurna II(,939m.), Mt. Annapurna III(,555m.), Mt. Annapurna IV(,525m.), Mt. Machhapuchre (,993m.) Mt. Hiuchuli (,441m.), Mt. Lamjung (,986m.). The base camp is incredibly spectacular, set amidst the chain peaks.
The trekking journey to Annapurna Base Camp begins in Pokhara but there are 2 main trekking routes that you can choose and follow up to the base camp. Nepal Fair Trekking has outlined the itinerary via the Ghorepani- Poonhill route that meets at Chomrong and takes you to Annapurna Base Camp. Many hikers prefer this circuit route- Nayapul- Ghorepani- Chomrong Annapurna Base Camp and ends in Nayapul.
The itinerary that we’ve proposed takes 13days, starting from Kathmandu to Pokhara and driving from Pokhara to Kathmandu). From Pokhara we head to Nayapul by land transport, then hike north up to Ghorepani and the popular viewpoint at Poon hill. From Ghorepani you’ll take the eastward trail and keep walking up to Chomrong. From Chomrong you’ll head to the north entering the Modi Kola Valley which takes you to the Base Camp. This route is indeed beautiful in itself. This trek can be done by a family with children as well.
On Annapurna Base Camp trekking, you’ll be absolutely immersed in diverse flora and Flora and fauna will change constantly, but the lushness will remain pretty the same. You’ll walk through rhododendron forest before entering into the fields of towering bamboo. Furthermore, you’ll find yourself deep within thick rainforest creeping with moss and lichen. As you’ll walk through the lower altitude, you’ll find greenery nearly all the way up to the base camp. The final day’s journey is substantially above the tree line, but you’ll still be walking through emerald alpine fields.
Pre-monsoon time between March and May and post monsoon from September to November are the ideal times to do Annapurna Base Camp trek.
