Annapurna Circuit is arguably Nepal’s most diverse and best-known trekking destination which offers lots of cultural diversities and challenges to trekkers and enthusiast outdoor lovers. This trek is suitable for those who want to explore attractive natural landscapes, diverse culture, diverse climatic conditions and rural lifestyle of the local people. From Kathmandu the journey begins by land transport up to trek start point and then the hike starts along the Marsyangdi River. The first day you walk on the hiking trail along the mountains, past small waterfalls on the right side and some impressive waterfalls on the opposite side. It will be quite a lot of up and downhill walking but the scenery is really great.
You pass through lush green jungle, farming areas and Hindu villages in the shadow of the Annapurna and Manaslu Himalaya observing the views of snow-capped mountains. The entire scenario amazes visitors in every way. As we gently ascend higher altitude, the Marsyangdi valley becomes narrower, the landscape changes: we find fewer trees, the cliffs become deeper and the villages sparse. In every village, we come across a beautiful temple, decorated with coloured flags fluttering in the sun.
Between Annapurna and Manaslu two giant mountains lies the Kali-Gandaki River’s deep valley. Trekkers come across the interesting Thakali people in the Annapurna region. They are well-known for their strong community activities, and both visitors and Nepalese locals admire their cuisine. Some of the major highlights worth exploring of the Annapurna Circuit trek are Besisahar, Manang, Thorong La Pass, Jomsom and Tatopani. Although there are many other great places to go trekking in Nepal, but for natural beauty and easy access, it’s hard to beat the Annapurna Circuit! The trail meanders through behind the Annapurnas, to enter a Trans-Himalayan region populated by people of Tibetan origin whose prayer flags, mani walls and monasteries on the trekking trail are perpetual reminders of the flourishing Buddhist culture.
The best time to do Annapurna Circuit trek is when the climate gets a bit warmer. In spring (March-June) you see blooming of rhododendrons beautifully along the trail. It is also recommended to do the trek from the end of September to November which brings clear skies and freshness. It is one of the best times to trek in Annapurna region. However, you should avoid monsoon that runs through Jun-Sep in Nepal where the river floods and most of the paths are prone to landslide.
